The Commodity Officer is responsible for managing the receipt, storage, and distribution of food commodities in compliance with WFP standards. This role ensures accurate documentation, proper handling, and timely delivery of commodities to targeted communities, minimizing losses and safeguarding donor resources. By maintaining rigorous accountability systems and coordinating with field teams, the Commodity Officer plays a vital role in achieving WFP’s mission to provide life-saving food assistance to vulnerable populations during emergencies.
Job Description
Support the Logistics and Transport Coordinator in planning & monitoring movement, coordinating transport, and ensuring timely delivery.
Support the Information and Reporting Officer in verifying monthly/quarterly reports, maintaining accurate records (waybills, ledgers), ensuring compliance with donor requirements (WFP, etc.).
Ensuring adherence to organizational and donor standards (GACAP), monitoring food quality, managing loss claims, implementing internal controls.
Conduct training for storekeepers and commodity accountants on the procedures of record keeping and warehouse management, providing technical support for tracking systems (LMMS-ITS, JEOP Portal, Partner Connect).
Monitor warehouse and distribution document regularly and check the reconciliation of commodity accountant reports in aligning with the physical documents and CRS PDP reports.
Maintain an audit ready, well organized filling system for all commodity files, records and reports. Make sure that all documents, reports and files are secure and kept in a safe place
Maintain a consolidated record for all warehouses, which gives the stock information on weekly basis.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or in related field of study.
Experience in food assistance programing and good knowledge of GACAP.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Strong knowledge and working understanding on Emergency Food resource management;
Demonstrated capacity to lead the team with similar scope
