Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency calls such as sudden illness, accidents (automobile, industrial, etc.), building collapses and natural disasters.
- Lead and coordinate the team responding to an emergency.
- Evaluate the patient’s condition on the scene and perform preliminary diagnosis.
- Attend to injuries or sudden illnesses by applying a variety of pre-hospital simple and advanced treatments (Defibrillation, intubation and ventilation, fluid resuscitation)
- Ability to conduct assessments/tests on critical care equipment such as defibrillator, ventilator, oxygen cylinders etc.
- Use appropriate equipment and tools to extricate patients from vehicles, rubble, or accident scene, stabilize patients and provide immediate treatment.
- Provide emergency medical care and or transport the patients to the required hospital or other medical facilities for further medical care as appropriate.
- Educate the workforce on health and safety issues.
- Adhere to established medical protocols and procedures as well as legal guidelines and health and safety standards.
- Keep abreast of new treatment and medical procedures through continuous training.
- Write and submit concrete and accurate reports on incidents.
- Other tasked assigned by the immediate line manager.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Tertiary qualification as Emergency Medical Technician; Must be a Licensed Paramedic
- Current accredited qualification in ATLS (Advance Trauma Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Experience
- Proven experience as a paramedic with 3+ years of experience in same position or related.
Key Competencies & Skills
- Remote site experience in the mining industry is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of medical procedures, terminology, and medications
- Ability to stay calm and make the right decisions in adverse conditions
- Adaptable with a great deal of stamina
- Excellent working knowledge of medical equipment and devices
- Integrity and compassion towards human pain
- Having valid driver’s license is a requirement.
- Excellent skill in writing and speaking of English and Amharic languages.
- Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
- Keen attention to detail.
Working Conditions
- Site-based role with rotational roster aligned to mining operations.
- May require extended working hours based on operational needs.
- Exposure to mining site conditions in compliance with safety standards.
