Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Protection Officer will implement, monitor, and report on protection activities within the Ura Refugee Camp.

The role focuses on delivering quality, rights-based protection services to refugees and host communities while working with community structures, authorities, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners.

Key Responsibilities

Protection Monitoring & Case Management

• Identify persons with specific needs and individuals at risk.
• Provide individual protection counseling.
• Support appropriate case management.
• Facilitate referrals to medical, legal, psychosocial, livelihood, and other services.
• Monitor protection risks affecting refugees and host communities.

Psychosocial Support

• Coordinate culturally appropriate individual and group-based PSS services.
• Support crisis intervention activities.
• Promote emotional well-being and resilience among affected communities.

Community Engagement

• Establish and strengthen women's safe spaces.
• Support community-based protection networks.
• Encourage community participation in identifying and addressing protection risks.

Awareness & Training

Conduct awareness sessions on:

• Human rights
• Protection principles
• GBV prevention
• Available services

• Facilitate training and community engagement activities.

Coordination & Reporting

• Liaise with UNHCR, ARRA, the GBV Sub-Working Group, and other humanitarian partners.
• Maintain accurate protection documentation and data.
• Prepare and submit timely reports to the Project Manager.

Standards & Safeguarding

• Follow international protection principles.
• Apply ethical GBV data-management practices.
• Comply with PSEA policies and the organization's Code of Conduct.
• Maintain high standards of integrity and confidentiality.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

Bachelor's Degree in:

• Social Work
• Gender Studies
• International Law
• Human Rights
• Or a related field

Experience

• 3–5 years of experience in protection programming.
• Refugee or humanitarian-setting experience is preferred.
• Experience in GBV response, case management, or community-based protection is a strong advantage.
• Experience facilitating participatory engagement and training sessions.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of international protection and humanitarian principles.

• Excellent English proficiency, written and spoken.
