About the Job

The Automotive Maintenance Department Manager will be responsible for ensuring the maximum availability and efficient operation of vehicles, machinery, and mobile equipment used for raw material preparation and transportation, finished-product transportation, and staff transportation.

The role involves developing and implementing preventive and breakdown maintenance programs, managing spare parts and consumables, improving equipment reliability, controlling maintenance costs, and ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure workplace safety requirements are met before starting maintenance activities.
• Maintain detailed records and service histories for vehicles, machinery, and mobile equipment.
• Plan preventive and breakdown maintenance activities, including required resources and schedules.
• Ensure workshops, tool stores, spare parts, grease, oil, and vehicle-washing facilities are properly maintained.
• Equip the workshop with modern vehicle diagnostic equipment and appropriate software.
• Develop and implement an automotive preventive maintenance performance management system.
• Establish effective systems for collecting and managing automotive maintenance data.
• Conduct cost-benefit analyses of long-serving vehicles and provide recommendations to management.
• Evaluate the costs and benefits of vehicle renewal, maintenance, overhaul, and disposal options.
• Monitor maintenance quality standards and asset-management procedures.
• Work with mechanical workshop teams to fabricate or recondition spare parts where appropriate.
• Develop long-term strategic plans and short-term operational plans for the department.
• Oversee the procurement and proper use of automotive maintenance tools and equipment.
• Ensure preventive maintenance activities comply with relevant technical standards.
• Review and audit automotive maintenance processes and systems.
• Ensure proper management and maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Ensure the workshop has adequate skilled and competent technical personnel.
• Establish proper procedures for managing used parts for reuse or disposal.
• Train, coach, support, and develop department employees.
• Conduct training for vehicle operators and drivers on proper vehicle operation and handling.
• Maintain standardized housekeeping procedures, workplace signage, and SOPs.
• Manage employee work schedules, overtime, and leave arrangements.
• Implement staff performance management and conduct regular evaluations.
• Introduce continuous work-improvement systems as directed by management.
• Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations and requirements.
• Maintain and develop professional knowledge in consultation with the immediate supervisor.
• Ensure maintenance activities are completed efficiently, within the required timeframe, and using cost-saving methods.
• Prepare periodic performance reports for management.
• Perform other related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or line manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

• BSc or MSc Degree in Automotive Engineering, Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Relevant Work Experience

• For MSc holders: 16 years of relevant experience, including at least 4 years in a managerial position.
• For BSc holders: 18 years of relevant experience, including at least 6 years in a managerial position.
