Job Overview

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) is seeking a qualified and experienced Drug Store Keeper/Dispenser to join its pharmacy team in Addis Ababa. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing pharmaceutical inventory, dispensing medications according to prescriptions, maintaining proper storage conditions, and providing guidance to patients on the correct use of medicines.

This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of pharmaceutical practices, and commitment to ensuring safe and effective medication management.

Key Responsibilities

Drug Storage and Inventory Management

• Sort, classify, label, and arrange medicines and pharmaceutical supplies properly.
• Maintain organized drug storage systems and ensure medicines are stored according to recommended standards.
• Protect drug inventory from damage, contamination, and deterioration.
• Store temperature-sensitive medications appropriately and monitor refrigerator temperatures regularly.
• Ensure secure storage of controlled and restricted medications.

Dispensing and Patient Support

• Dispense medicines accurately based on authorized prescriptions.
• Measure, weigh, package, and prepare medications according to established procedures.
• Prepare and attach medication labels with clear dosage and administration instructions.
• Educate patients on the proper use, dosage, and storage of prescribed medications.
• Respond to basic medication-related inquiries from patients and service users.

Documentation and Record Keeping

• Maintain accurate records of dispensed prescriptions and pharmacy transactions.
• Properly document and archive prescriptions for future reference.
• Perform pharmacy-related clerical and administrative tasks.
• Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical record-keeping requirements.

Additional Duties

• Support the Pharmacy Head in daily pharmacy operations.
• Follow pharmacy policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Carry out any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Education

Applicants must possess:

• Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy

OR

• College Diploma / TVET Level IV in Pharmacy, Druggist Studies, or a related field.

Experience

• Bachelor's Degree holders: Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience.
• Diploma/TVET Level IV holders: Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience.
• Previous experience in drug dispensing, pharmacy operations, or medical store management is highly desirable.
