Job Summary
The Health & Nutrition Technical Advisor serves as the primary technical resource for Samaritan’s Purse Ethiopia health and nutrition programs. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, technical guidance, program quality support, and coordination between field teams and the International Health Unit.
The role also supports program design, donor proposal development, technical training, emergency response activities, and health systems strengthening initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership and Strategic Planning
- Provide technical leadership for health and nutrition programs
- Ensure alignment with national policies and humanitarian standards
- Lead development and revision of health and nutrition strategies
- Analyze public health and nutrition trends
- Support innovative program design and donor proposal development
- Prepare technical budgets and implementation plans
Program Quality and Field Support
- Provide technical support to field teams and program managers
- Support service quality monitoring and implementation guidance
- Conduct field visits and technical coaching sessions
- Assist in documenting lessons learned and impact stories
- Support preparation of reports and performance reviews
Coordination and Representation
- Coordinate with International Headquarters technical teams
- Represent the organization in health cluster meetings and coordination forums
- Strengthen staff technical capacity and emergency preparedness
- Support evidence-based emergency health responses
Required Qualifications
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Master’s Degree in:
- Public Health
- Nutrition
- Or equivalent advanced qualifications
- Clinical background is preferred
- Minimum 6–7 years of professional experience in the Ethiopian health sector
- At least 2 years field experience in northern Ethiopia
- Experience in:
- Primary healthcare
- Child health
- Reproductive health
- Health systems strengthening
- BHA programming
- Strong understanding of humanitarian health and nutrition programming
- Excellent technical writing and reporting skills
Language Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Professional proficiency in English and Amharic
- Knowledge of regional languages where programs operate is mandatory
- Additional Ethiopian language skills are advantageous
