World Vision is currently seeking an experienced Environment and Climate Action Senior Advisor to provide strategic leadership and technical expertise in environmental stewardship and climate action across the East Africa Region.

Job Summary

The Environment and Climate Action Senior Advisor will provide strategic and technical leadership to strengthen environmental stewardship and climate action programs across World Vision's Field Offices. The role focuses on supporting project design and implementation, strengthening organizational capacity, promoting innovation, mobilizing resources, and ensuring environmental sustainability is integrated into development, humanitarian, and advocacy programs.

The successful candidate will work closely with regional and global teams, government institutions, donors, development partners, and technical experts to advance climate resilience and environmental protection initiatives throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental Stewardship and Climate Action

• Support the implementation of World Vision's Environmental Stewardship Policy across the East Africa Region.
• Provide technical guidance for the design and implementation of Environment and Climate Action (ESCA) programs.
• Strengthen integrated programming and build the capacity of Field Offices.
• Conduct field assessments, quality assurance visits, and technical support missions.
• Identify organizational capacity gaps and deliver technical training and mentorship.
• Promote innovative environmental and climate action approaches across development and humanitarian projects.
• Support carbon footprint reduction initiatives and sustainable environmental practices.
• Monitor project performance and report against regional and global environmental indicators.
• Provide policy guidance related to environmental stewardship and climate action.

Resource Mobilization and Grant Development

• Support Field Offices in securing funding for environmental and climate projects.
• Develop capability statements, business cases, case studies, and proposal documents.
• Identify funding opportunities from bilateral agencies, UN organizations, and development partners.
• Assist in preparing competitive grant proposals.
• Strengthen organizational positioning with donors and funding institutions.

Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement

• Build and maintain partnerships with governments, donors, NGOs, research institutions, and development organizations.
• Represent World Vision in regional and international environmental and climate change forums.
• Support cross-sector collaboration and integrated environmental programming.
• Coordinate with Global Centre Environment and Climate Change teams.

Humanitarian, Development and Peace Nexus

• Promote integrated programming that connects humanitarian response, long-term development, and peacebuilding initiatives.
• Support climate resilience programming in fragile and conflict-affected communities.
• Facilitate joint planning and learning among humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding actors.
• Strengthen climate adaptation strategies that address food insecurity, environmental degradation, and resource conflicts.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

• Master's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Climate Change, or a related field.
• Degree in Program Management or International Development is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in climate change, environmental stewardship, program development, advocacy, resource mobilization, or humanitarian programming.
• Strong understanding of Environmental Stewardship and Climate Action (ESCA) programming.
• Experience developing climate and environmental policies and strategies.
• Experience working with bilateral donors and United Nations agencies.
• Experience preparing grant proposals and mobilizing donor funding.
• Knowledge of international environmental frameworks and climate change conventions.
• Experience conducting technical training and capacity-building programs.
• Strong project management and proposal development skills.
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
• Strong leadership, networking, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Excel, databases, and reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading Communities of Practice (CoP).
• Experience in advocacy and policy development.
• Knowledge of livelihoods, humanitarian response, and international development.
• Experience conducting research and developing programming models.
• Basic French language skills.

Travel Requirement
