About the African Migration Report (AMR III)
The African Migration Report (AMR) is a collaborative initiative between the African Union Commission (AUC) and International Organization for Migration aimed at strengthening evidence-based migration discourse across Africa.
The report promotes African-centered migration perspectives, regional integration, labour mobility, and development-focused migration policies. The third edition of the report will further examine migration governance, displacement, climate change, migration health, diaspora engagement, and labour mobility across the continent.
The project is implemented in collaboration with partners including:
- African Union Commission (AUC)
- African Development Bank (AfDB)
- Regional Economic Communities (RECs)
- AfCFTA Secretariat
- International development partners
Job Summary
The International Consultant will serve as the Editor-In-Chief for the Third Edition of the African Migration Report (AMR III). The consultant will provide overall editorial leadership and ensure the report maintains analytical consistency, technical quality, policy relevance, and publication readiness.
The role includes coordinating with co-editors, thematic experts, peer reviewers, and institutional partners to produce a high-quality publication on African migration dynamics and policy trends.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership
- Lead the editorial development and finalization of AMR III
- Ensure consistency, coherence, and alignment across all report chapters
- Develop editorial guidelines and structures for contributors
- Review chapter submissions and recommend consolidation where necessary
Technical Review and Quality Assurance
- Review first, second, and final drafts of chapters
- Ensure conceptual clarity and analytical consistency
- Maintain balance between technical rigor and accessibility
- Verify readiness of chapters for final publication
Coordination and Collaboration
- Coordinate with thematic experts, peer reviewers, and co-editors
- Work closely with IOM departments and institutional partners
- Monitor progress against agreed work plans and timelines
- Maintain communication regarding consultancy deliverables
Research and Dissemination
- Ensure content reflects African migration realities and policy discussions
- Support dissemination activities, policy dialogues, and launch events
- Contribute to strategic migration knowledge production and visibility efforts
