About IOM

In Ethiopia, IOM works closely with the Government of Ethiopia and humanitarian partners to support vulnerable migrant returnees through post-arrival assistance and reintegration services.


Job Summary

The Project Assistant (Return) will support post-arrival assistance activities under IOM Ethiopia’s Protection Unit. The successful candidate will assist in project coordination, documentation, reporting, administrative support, and communication activities related to migrant returnee assistance programs.

The role contributes to the effective implementation of return and reintegration operations for vulnerable migrants in Ethiopia.


Key Responsibilities

Project and Administrative Support

  • Provide clerical and administrative support for project activities
  • Assist in project implementation and coordination tasks
  • Support budget monitoring and updates
  • Liaise with internal departments and external partners

Reporting and Documentation

  • Compile and summarize project-related information and data
  • Draft reports, presentations, briefing notes, and correspondence
  • Maintain organized project files and records
  • Prepare statistical tables and documentation materials

Meetings and Coordination

  • Support organization of meetings, workshops, and training sessions
  • Respond to information requests and project inquiries
  • Assist with communication and follow-up activities

Additional Duties

  • Perform other project-related responsibilities assigned by supervisors
  • Support smooth implementation of return and reintegration activities

Required Qualifications

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

Education

  • Diploma with three years of relevant experience

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Political Science
    • Social Sciences
    • International Relations
    • Development Studies
    • Migration Studies
    • Human Rights
    • Law
    • Or related fields

Experience

  • Minimum 1–3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience working with:
    • Government institutions
    • UN agencies
    • NGOs and humanitarian organizations
    • Migrants and vulnerable populations
  • Experience in multicultural work environments is an advantage

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of migration and humanitarian issues
  • Administrative and reporting skills
  • Budget monitoring knowledge

  • Knowledge of donor-funded projects
  • Familiarity with financial procedures and IPSAS standards

Language Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Fluency in Amharic (written and spoken)
  • Working knowledge of Afan Oromo is an advantage
