PATH is seeking an experienced Regional Policy Lead – Health Research & Development (Africa) to drive policy and advocacy initiatives that strengthen Africa’s health research, innovation, and development ecosystem.
Job Summary
The Regional Policy Lead will spearhead policy and advocacy strategies that promote health innovation, research investments, regulatory advancement, local manufacturing, and equitable access to healthcare solutions across Africa.
Working closely with governments, regional institutions, donors, academia, civil society organizations, and private-sector stakeholders, the successful candidate will help shape policies that accelerate health innovation and strengthen Africa’s healthcare systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and implement regional health research and development policy and advocacy strategies.
- Manage program plans, budgets, deliverables, reporting requirements, and project performance.
- Build and strengthen partnerships with governments, regional bodies, donors, research institutions, and development partners.
- Engage with continental organizations including the African Union, Africa CDC, AUDA-NEPAD, and related institutions.
- Represent PATH at high-level policy forums, technical meetings, and stakeholder engagements.
- Collaborate with PATH teams to integrate advocacy, research, innovation, and programmatic priorities.
- Produce policy briefs, research analyses, reports, advocacy materials, and strategic recommendations.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to project teams and partners.
- Identify funding opportunities and contribute to proposal development and resource mobilization.
- Enhance PATH’s visibility and influence within Africa’s health innovation and policy landscape.
Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Global Health, Health Policy, Public Policy, International Development, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Health Economics, or a related field.
- Background in management consulting is an added advantage.
Experience
- Strong experience in health research and development, public health policy, advocacy, or related fields.
- Proven experience designing and implementing policy and advocacy strategies that influence decision-making.
- Deep understanding of Africa’s health innovation ecosystem, including:
- Research and development
- Regulatory systems
- Health product introduction
- Manufacturing and market access
- Experience managing complex multi-country or multi-stakeholder projects.
- Demonstrated success building partnerships with governments, donors, NGOs, and regional institutions.
